Light is driving the
next wave of revolution
in biomanufacturing.

Our photomolecular fermentation platform can fundamentally change
the economics of microbial fermentation.

Unlocking efficiency in
biomanufacturing of
everyday chemicals.

The Avalos Lab at Princeton University pioneered the use of optogenetics (light) to control microbial cell metabolisms. Founded by alumni of the Avalos Lab, Fermeate leverages 10 years of research to build our photomolecular fermentation platform.

Fermeate’s Photomolecular Fermentation Technology

Higher Yield

Achieving theoretical yield of target products is challenging because the cells must use carbon for essential growth pathways. knocking out these pathways compromises cell viability. Fermeate enables microorganisms to use key metabolites previously inaccessible, allowing for greater product yields without compromising growth.

Sustained Productivity

Fed-batch processes can only be sustained for short durations as the cells feel the stress of production, which diverts resources away from the essential pathways. Fermeate's technology extends high productivity by >2X in fed-batch processes and is fully adaptable to continuous fermentation.

Dynamic Control

The lack of scalable and robust dynamic control tools limits the ability to precisely control cellular processes. Light enables precise, real-time control of metabolic pathways, allowing flexible metabolic balancing for optimal performance.
